A Shoppable Curation of Trends

NZFW INSIDER: RICCI MATHEWS

What do you do? How are you involved in Fashion Week?
I work for Ciel PR. I manage a showroom full of 20 mostly NZ Fashion labels. We have five of our clients showing at FW, Jimmy D, Blak, Neverblack, Starfish and Annah Stretton. So we invite, cast, seat, produce and publicise the shows or parties. Ciel PR is also involved in Westpac Young Designer Show and Sunday Star Times Shoe of the week.

Which designers show are you most excited about seeing?
Well I’m not sure how much I will actually see, but I just saw the BLAK collection that will be shown, and I actually felt giddy and a little sick in the stomach- it was that good! Jimmy D is without a doubt one to see, we do not have enough seats in the building for the amount of people trying to get tickets to the show.

Model you’re looking forward to seeing on the runway?
Hmmm hard to chose one, I love to see young new models finding their own on the catwalk, we have cast so many fresh faces in our shows, many walking at FW for the first time. I have worked with a model Lulu from Australia before and she has a ridiculous body and a pretty unique look, so looking forward to seeing her.

Favorite place to get a post show drink or dinner?
Drink: Bonita or Golden Dawn. Dinner: Café Hanoi or Ebisu.

What’s always in your handbag during fashion week?

What isn’t in my handbag? Tape, vivids, pens, pins, water, some sort of snack, paw paw, make up, mist spray, phone, phone charger and lists of jobs that I need to be doing!

What’s your NZFW soundtrack?
‘Oh Land,’ on constant repeat all week long!

Your must have piece to wear at Fashion Week?
My Jimmy D Drift Floral dress. Yes floral. It's unusual to hear Floral and Jimmy D in the same sentence, but it’s a really 90s grungy micro-floral. it's amaze! Teamed up with my new Chaos and Harmony flatforms. They also are amaze!

Fashion Week dressing tip?
So many people go to so much trouble with their outfits for Fashion Week, then don’t bother with their hair or makeup, outfit ruined as far as Im concerned.  I will be visiting my hairdresser Matt Benns for a blow wave twice during fashion week. I would go every day if I had time.

One word to describe this year’s fashion week?
Hectic

What’s keeps you going during fashion Week?
The volunteers and interns. They work their butts of for free, working long hours, with some doing not so glamorous jobs. Without them Fashion Week and the individual shows just cant function. We have the best interns on our Ciel PR team this year!
