Trend Report: The Bomber Jacket
Originally designed to keep pilots warm in WWI, the bomber jacket has evolved into what should be a staple item in every man’s wardrobe. Not only does it look good with its narrow bands at the cuffs and waist, but true to its utilitarian nature this jacket will help keep you warm throughout the winter months.
Although it has been a must-have for a while, the bomber saw a comeback to cool on a whole new level thanks to Ryan Gosling in last year’s cult hit Drive. It appeared yet again in full force all over the AW 12/13 Menswear runways, showing up everywhere from Louis Vuitton, Calvin Klein Collection and Burberry Prorsum, to Diesel Black Gold, Acne, Phillip Lim and Maison Martin Margiela. With such unanimous nods from fashion royalty you can be sure the bomber jacket will keep it’s cool for at least a couple more seasons.
The bomber is quite the chameleon. For everyday wear it can have an urban sportswear or Ivy League feel depending on how you wear it. Or if you’re feeling daring opt for a more sporty luxe look à la Acne, or work it like an English gentlemen like Burberry’s boy. For a more urban look, opt for jeans, a t-shirt and a new pair of kicks, or keep it Harvard-preppy with some rolled-up chinos, Converse Chuck Taylor's and a button down shirt.
And hey, why not pop your collar if you’re feeling it.
