We love Max!
We are so lucky to have one of New Zealand's biggest brands, Max, come onboard for the Shop One Night event. During the evening Max is offering free shipping on orders over $50 as well as a 20% discount when you buy two of more Max@Work items. Have a look at the Max@Work range here.
We caught up with one of Max's buyers, Vanessa Thompson, to chat about their latest collection, trends and how to make them work, online shopping and her Shop One Night picks.
What inspired the design team with the Max AW12 collection?
The English countryside was a key inspiration and we ran away with the idea of foxes and British wildlife which will show through in the imagery launching early March. We are continually inspired by the working kiwi woman and the idea of pulling together the ideal work wardrobe for her and her lifestyle, both in the office and in her down time. We were also greatly inspired by the glamourous era that was the ‘70’s, with faux fur stoles, a beautiful turban, sunray pleats and a collection of pieces in rich jewel tones.
What is your favourite trend this season?
My favourite trend this season is COATS. Coats are making a huge come back this Winter with shapes ranging from Capes, to military styles – and one of the newest shapes, the Cocoon coat.
What is your must have accessory for the season?
A pony hair trimmed leather bag or shoes!
What do you think is the best thing about shopping online?
Shopping online gives you the comfort of browsing without leaving your seat. It means you can quickly browse new collections from a variety of stores before you purchase. Also, every time you receive the package in the mail, it’s like Xmas!
Do you have any tips on how to make a classic black suit look on trend this season?
Add accents of Cranberry! Cranberry is huge this season and by adding highlights of this colour either with a belt, scarf or new season top you’ll immediately update your look.
What is your must-have pick for the Shop One Night evening?
The Scarlett Lace Dress and Lace Jacket (featured below) – classic with a touch of lace to keep you looking on trend while working at the office!
Trendstreet & Michelle Yvette
For Shop One Night, Maria Shans from Trendstreet has collaborated with Auckland designer, Michelle Yvette, to create a limited-edition collection of luxurious evening wear.
The inspiration for the collection itself came from Michelle Yvette’s showroom, the palatial interior of which resembles that of a majestic European castle. In these surroundings, the idea for this couture line of luxurious dresses came into being. The four sheer maxi dresses and skirt / top combination are the height of femininity and will make you stand out at any cocktail party or other special night where you wish to look both classy and seductive. Each item was hand-made and is one-of-a-kind so you can be sure that no one else will be dressed like you!
The collection is available only in medium size and the dresses will retail at $415 on the night, which includes a 10% discount off the normal retail price. For each dress purchased, you will also receive a free pair of matching shorties. The beige skirt will sell for $315 and the matching top will retail at $190, which also include a 10% discount. The collection will be available for purchase on the Trendstreet website on the night of the 23rd February.

The perfect pair
We all know how much girls love their shoes, but we also know how much girls love their jewellery. So why not combine the two? Well that’s exactly what two of New Zealand’s favourite designers have done to celebrate Shop One Night on February 23. We think it's the perfect fit!
Kathryn Wilson and Boh Runga have teamed up to customise five pairs of limited edition ‘Laura’ heels, as featured as the ‘Shoe of the Week’ in yesterday's Sunday Magazine. We caught up with the designers, Kathryn and Boh, to discuss their latest collections, online shopping and, of course, Shop One Night.
What inspired your AW12 collection?
Kathryn: The collection was designed based around the theme of luxe-contrasting textures of high shine patent against velvet, rich embroidery and tweeds with metal applique. I was thinking about the image of a powerful woman and referenced Beyonce's song 'Run The World' which I used as the finale song at my catwalk show for New Zealand Fashion Week last September.
Boh: I wanted to make a range of jewellery that was a little daintier than my previous collections – sweet little pieces that can be worn with each other. SMALL but perfectly formed has a little bit of kiwiana and a little bit of girly too.
What is your favourite trend this season?
Kathryn: Stacked platform heels. A girl's best friend... you can look great and feel confident wearing heels from day into night.
Boh: Jewellery-wise I like seeing people wearing layers of necklaces, different sized chains with charms or interesting pendants.
What do you think is the best thing about shopping online?
Kathryn: I like when something arrives by courier and it's like opening a present.
Boh: Not getting out of bed.
What is your must-have pick for the Shop One Night evening?
Kathryn & Boh: The Laura boot featuring the SMALL but perfectly formed Lil Sweet Heart and Lil Hug and Kisses charms.
Tell us about the five pairs of limited edition heels you will be customising for Shop One Night …
The Laura boot was one of our favourite styles from the new W’12 collection which was shown on the catwalk at NZFW last year. Its one of our most popular styles and we wanted to let the first 5 people to buy them online get a special version personally adorned by Boh herself with beautiful Lil Hug and Kisses and Lil Sweet Heart charms attached to the zip pullers which are shown on the outside of the leg. The result is a limited edition, super special pair of boots that you can show off to all your girlfriends!!
These shoes are hot property so if you want to snap up one of the customised pairs you'd better have your credit card ready and waiting as soon as it hits 5pm on Thursday. You're sure to make your friends jealous with these!
Eye candy: Deadly Ponies/Viva bag
Get ready to splurge ... In celebration of Shop One Night, Deadly Ponies has teamed up with the NZ Herald 'Viva' to create 10 of these limited edition handbags. They are made out of a beautiful black calf fur and retail for $610. This is the first time this bag has ever been made in calf hair and it will only be available for purchase during Shop One Night through the Deadly Ponies online shop.
Not only is this little beauty the perfect bag for F/W 12, but it's so exclusive that if you're lucky enough to get your hands on one you know you've got something extra special. It will be well worth the splurge!
Limited edition I Love Ugly caps
Boys love their caps like girls love their bags. And every cool looking guy in town right now is sporting a five-panel cap.
Thanks to the boys at I Love Ugly you can get your hands on a limited edition five-panel cap, created exclusively for Shop One Night. They're only available for purchase during the event on February 23 (5pm-midnight) so you will have to get in quick.
They've also made some printed tees which you can buy on the night too.
We love!
